Potter Clarkson brings valuable IP expertise to MedCity Investment Hub

MedCity has joined forces with Potter Clarkson in a partnership which will see the firm’s specialist intellectual property advisers bring their experience of working with investors and entrepreneurs to the MedCity Investment Hub.

Connecting life sciences and healthcare start-ups and early-stage companies to investors, the MedCity Investment Hub focuses on supporting investment in digital health, diagnostics, therapeutics, medical devices, AI and data. This makes it the perfect fit for Potter Clarkson, which is home to one of the largest specialist life sciences IP teams in Europe.

The Potter Clarkson team will be on hand to share their expertise on the importance of a commercially-focused IP strategy at the quarterly Investment Hub Company Showcases, with partners and highly-respected patent attorneys, Fiona Law and Peter Finnie, part of the speaker line-up at the next event on 22 April.

The award-winning firm, which has a deep pedigree in working with health and life science businesses, recently published its first IP Blueprint for Growth, which focuses on how start-ups and SMEs can attract and secure funding.

Commenting on the partnership, Fiona Law, partner at Potter Clarkson, said:

“In MedCity, we have found a like-minded partner with a shared passion for helping new and important life sciences innovations reach the market. As a firm, our success lies in bringing together our technical and legal expertise to help businesses leverage their IP to secure investment – too often IP is not properly positioned at the heart of a company’s business plan, and we want to show how it can be used to drive growth, underpin investment and support an exit strategy. We know that our relationship with MedCity will play an important part in achieving this aim.”

Neelam Patel, CEO of MedCity, said:

“We have a broad network of investors looking to invest in the best start-ups and support the continued growth of innovation in the UK. As part of the Hub offer, we help companies to be investment-ready with business advice and pitch training, so it is great to have Potter Clarkson on board to share their technical expertise and help companies to fund their mission.”

In the six years since its inception, MedCity’s Investment Hub showcase events have hosted more than 80 companies who have received in excess of £30 million leveraged from the rounds. Over £6.5 million of that has come from Investment Hub members. The April Showcase event is fully subscribed, but MedCity is keen to hear from life sciences and healthcare companies who would like to take part in the second event of the year on 1st July.
