Life Sciences Symposium: Ageing, Gene Editing and AI – 9 October 2018
Nihonbashi Life Science Building, Tokyo
On Tuesday 9 October we hosted a UK Life Sciences Symposium in Tokyo attended by approximately 70 people. UK health scientists, universities and national research institutions provided insight into the UK life sciences sector, and their work in ageing, gene editing, artificial intelligence. Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, Sheffield University, University College London, and Genomics England, amongst others, provided talks, and a number of companies, including Invicro and Richmond Pharmacology, provided company infoshots.
BioJapan Expo – 9 – 12 October
We were kept busy on the UK stand over the three days of the major partnering conference! On the first day, we were visited by His Excellency Paul Madden CMG, the UK Ambassador to Japan, where he took particular interest in Mitt’s prosethetic arm and Random42’s scientific VR animations. The UK had the most scientific speakers on the main agenda, outside of Japan, including Dr Namshik Han, University of Cambridge; Prof. Mimoun Azzouz, University of Sheffield and Prof. Sian Harding, Imperial College London.
UK Life Sciences Reception – 10 October
InterContinental Yokohama Grand, Yokohama
MedCity and the NHSA hosted the official UK life sciences reception on the first day of BioJapan, attended by over 250 people. Thank you to our sponsors, global real estate services and investment management company, Colliers, and global Contract Research Organisation, Phastar.
The UK as the Global Hub for Life Sciences Excellence – 12 October 2018

On the final day of BioJapan, we hosted a seminar looking at the UK as a world-leading destination for life sciences research and innovation and its long and deep history of scientific collaborations with Japanese institutions.
