Welcome – Sarah Haywood, CEO, MedCity

I can’t quite believe it’s been a year since the launch of DigitalHealth.London, but yesterday’s summit highlighted the strength of this fantastic team. From “hacking” STPs, to virtual reality in patient care, it was a packed day that demonstrated how digital is transforming healthcare, and it’s exciting to be a part of it. Find out who won the NHS Digital Pioneer Awards below.

I’m also pleased to tell you all that MedCity’s first ever Biomedical Research Centres event was a great success. We had inspiring speakers from across the NIHR, a brilliant showcase of the BRCs’ expertise, and above all great feedback on how useful it was to be able to connect and share ideas. We are looking at doing similar events in the future so watch this space.

Phil has just returned from Japan where we joined up with Imperial College to present the opportunities in our region to key players in academia, pharma and biotech. He also helped to form the agenda for BioJapan in October which will focus on regenerative medicine, drug discovery and the interface between digital and life sciences.

We have also been busy reviewing applications for our Collaborate to Innovate programme, which will connect 15 SMEs with academic research groups and provide up to £100k funding. I am really excited about the calibre of applicants and I will update you on the winners next month!
